The 10th series of the World Water Forum started in Nusa Dua, Bali on May 18, 2024. The event will take place from 18 to 25 May 2024, the theme for the conference is Water for Shared Prosperity and includes the following sub-themes: Water Security and Prosperity, Water for Humans and Nature, Disaster Risk Reduction and Management, Governance, Cooperation and Hydro-Diplomacy, Sustainable Water Financing, and Knowledge and Innovation


The international-scale event will be attended by 44 heads of state and their delegates to Bali to discuss the relationship between humans and water. To address global water challenges, climate leaders, water experts, and policymakers will convene to discuss critical issues including water security and economic well-being, balancing water needs for humans and nature, reducing disaster risks, improving water governance and cooperation through water diplomacy, securing sustainable water financing, and driving innovation in the water sector.


Loïc Fauchon (President of the World Water Council), The President of Indonesia, Joko Widodo, and key ministers attended the opening of the 10th World Water Forum, including Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan (Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment), Basuki Hadimuljono (Minister of Public Works and Housing), Sandiaga Uno (Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy), Abdullah Azwar Anas (Minister of State Apparatus Empowerment and Bureaucratic Reform), Sang Made Mahendra Jaya (Acting Governor of Bali). The event was also highlighted by the launch of Starlink in Indonesia by Elon Musk.


On the first day of the 10th World Water Forum, the event began with the Segara Kerthi or Balinese Water Purification Ceremony, themed "Caring for Water, Protecting Sarwa Prani," held on Saturday (5/18/24) at Surf Beach, Kura Kura Bali Area in Bali, Indonesia.


In the evening, a gala dinner for the opening of the World Water Forum was hosted by Indonesia's President, Joko Widodo, at the Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park. Besides the opening gala dinner, the event also featured traditional Balinese dances as entertainment.


The series of events will run until May 25, 2024. With the 10th World Water Forum being held in Bali, Indonesia, the Indonesian public will become more aware of the importance of water and appreciate it more. In addition to raising awareness about water conservation, the forum is expected to promote sustainable tourism practices in Bali. Furthermore, it is also a chance to promote Bali eco-tourism globally.
